21 year-old vegan, traveler, learner, doer, Earthling
My needs are simple; my aspirations are great. By that, I mean that I feel no inclination for materialism – I spend little on clothing and trivial things. I eat very simply and frugally. Rather, I invest my time and resources on experience. I dedicate myself to providing a means to live and let live. I travel the world and try to see what I can do to help it. I would like to leave every place just a little bit better than when I arrived.
I’m all about REAL. I would rather have a real experience living in a crumbling flat in industrial Vietnam with 4 locals than a 5-star Hilton. Don’t worry – I will update the Travelgram section of this site to share with you my many ‘colourful’ experiences – and the many unusual living situations I have undertaken this year! These experiences are REAL. They are raw and unglamorous, but they are filled with more life than an eternity of ingenuity.
I first became Vegan six and a half years ago. I had read books written by insiders of the meat industry – whistleblowers – and was appalled by the heart-wrenching stories of the deliberate infliction of pain on farm animals by the slaughterhouses (for entertainment) and the nauseating stories of treachery at the hands of the industry who control the information we have today – the very same one that altered the food pyramid to suit their profits.
I always try to “follow the money trail”, and while sometimes it can get a little murky, this one is pretty clear. We have been and are being lied to. Every corporation is working together against the common man. The meat and dairy industries keep us fat, sick and tired. Consequently, we pop over to their friends at the pharmacy to buy ‘pop’ evermore pills, which, you guessed it, make us sicker and have us reaching for even more medication. The USDA, FDA and WHO organizations have the very same men sitting on their boards as do the world’s largest pharmaceutical, dairy, and meat corporations. Likewise, the primary geopolitical engineering, plastic and armaments industries are managed by shareholders of the pharmaceutical companies. The same companies that sell us medicine are now producing our food, right down to fruit and vegetables. They have no interest in a healthy population – in fact, that would put them out of business. It is literally in their interest for us to be sick.
Throughout my teenage years, I struggled with disordered eating, dark thoughts and self-hatred. I was terrified of food and carbs and as a result, my vibrant, happy self (I was always known as the happiest child) turned dark, gloomy and miserable. I became lazy and vindictive. I blamed others for my misfortune and chose to see myself as a victim. Looking back, I am extremely lucky. I focused on the negatives when I should have focused on the wonderful opportunities offered to me. As they say in my native Iran, “I used to feel sad about having no shoes until I met a man with no feet”. I eventually came to change my perspective, but not before a solid two years of darkness pervaded my spirit. I want to show people that there is another way. You do NOT have to water-fast or restrict yourself to silly fad diets like the Master Cleanse, which do nothing but destroy your metabolism, as it did mine. There IS a way to get the body and mind you’ve always dreamed of. Recovery is possible. It is not always easy but it is always worth it. High carb Veganism is the diet humans are designed to thrive on. We are destined for abundance and vibrancy, and that starts with the fuel we put into our bodies. Say no to calorie restriction and yes to your life!
Above all, I want to live a positive life. I hear a lot of people say this, but then continue to badmouth certain sectors of society, people they work with or people they don’t know. The intention is there, but they are inconsistent with it. I believe very strongly in the power of habit – if you make the effort in the smallest of issues – the most seemingly insignificant – you are setting a pattern for yourself. It is well and good to be positive about the people in your life, but if you are thinking negatively towards others – perhaps, say, immigrants, animals, muslims, jews, christians – then you will never lead a fully positive life. I don’t believe in racist vegans, environmentalist who support the meat industry (with their pockets) or carnivorous animal activists. You must set a pattern to see the benefits, as with anything in life. Likewise, you will never manifest abundance if you love all others but yourself.
When we see criminals or wrong-doers, we must not react by force. Time-and-time again have we seen the disappointments of this logic. In the battle against increasing violence in a world plagued by an ocean of hate, we must fight back with love. Happy people do not commit acts of terror. People who feel accepted and welcome in society have no reason to radicalize. Radicalization is caused by the isolation of a people due to prejudice who grow sick of being hated. Therefore, in the face against terror, we must express more love than ever before. Fire will NEVER be put out by licks of its own flame; a flood will never be drained with a hose. The dark night turns bright only as the sun rises because only light can defeat the dark.
